The
country has strong churches in the southwest, and missionary
work near the lake and in other isolated places, but still large
areas remain unreached by the gospel. AIM began a survey of
Chad in 1988, working with the Evangelical Church of Chad (EET).
It was discovered that two-thirds of the people groups had no
viable church within them, and many were without a single Christian.
The AIM team currently has 18 members working in different ministries
in Chad. Peter & Sally Maclure joined the team as their
leaders at the end of 1998.
In partnership with the EET the three main
objectives of the AIM team are:
The training of
Chadian missionaries. A missionary training center
was opened at Ba Illi in 1994, with a Chadian principal and
AIM missionary assistance. This training center equips national
missionaries to reach Chad and beyond with the Good News.
Medical outreach.
The Chad team seeks to open health centers, staffed largely
by Chadian Christians in accordance with the government's
overall health plan.
Linguistics and
church planting. Chadian and Western missionaries
seek to develop churches among unreached peoples, and at the
same time work to reduce their language to writing so they
will be able to translate portions of the Bible.
There
is a good spirit of cooperation with others working in Chad
including Action Partners, WEC, Wycliffe Bible Translators,
Mission Aviation Fellowship and World Vision.
