Over
one hundred years ago, the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society
gave birth to the Lesotho Evangelical Church. Much of the
Christian witness of this church has become nominal over the
years, partly as a result of liberal influences. At the invitation
of this church in 1986, AIM began a Theological Education
by Extension (TEE) course to give Bible training for lay leaders.
This program is now being run under national leadership. Half
a million people in the mountainous areas of Lesotho are virtually
unreached by the gospel. An AIM team works among these people,
including medical staff at Tebellong hospital.
Exciting
ministries have blossomed among the herdboys of Lesotho. This
group of boys and young men spend most of the year high in
the hills grazing herds. Consequently, few receive a formal
education. AIM is reaching out to the herdboys through literacy,
and at the same time, introducing them to Jesus Christ. A
vocational school has been started to open new doors of opportunity
for the herdboys.
Other
areas of outreach include Bible studies, craft fellowship
for women, and a nursery school which is run by nationals.
TIMO, a two-year hands-on missionary training program has
also had a tremendous impact in Lesotho.
